A Humane Public Servant - By Prof. Haragopal I met S.R. Sankaran on 6th October 2010 evening to finalize his programme to release K. Balagopal’s book on the occasion of first endowment lecture to be delivered by Aruna Roy at Warangal on 8th October, the first anniversary of Balagopal. Sankaran was looking forward to this occasion but in the course of more than an hour that I was with him, he did say that he was feeling feverish, and had body pains but assured me that he would be alright. I hardly realized that it was my last meeting with him. We did discuss a number of things including the developments in Chhattisgarh, about kidnap and killing of constables and release of some of them after an appeal from a cross section including revolutionary writer Varavara Rao and formal thanking that the Chief Minister Chhattisgarh conveyed to Vara Vara Rao for the appeal.
